Comics in Leipzig (http://www.comics-in-leipzig.de/IIMS/index.php?page=IIMS_Content&pa=showpage&pid=36) got 129,000 people this year over four days.

It's in Germany, where a man riding a motorbike wearing only his flip-flops got arrested for failing to wear a helmet, school stops at 1pm, the main hot meal is taken in the early afternoon and the drinking age for beer and wine in public is 16.

It's part of the Book Fair, and the next one is 12th to 15th March 2009, plenty of time for a change of US president and the making of some reservations.

It takes place in Leipzig (duh), the biggest city in Saxony (home to half your heritage if you're Anglo-Saxon!) with a population of around four times the number of visitors to the convention, so I guess it's a take-over-the-town sort of scene. Yes, there's an airport.

Wiki Travel Leipzig (http://wikitravel.org/en/Leipzig) and TimeOut Travel Leipzig (http://www.timeout.com/travel/leipzig/intro.html) have more info, with pretty pictures. Apparently there are a goth nightclub and a bar with "the largest number of different brands of absinth" among the places to destroy your liver.

Germans generally learn English from age 5, and my German's not at all bad. I haven't checked about rooms for ten or houses to rent or whatever yet but I could.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Squid, Plunder, skerry wee pirrat catgals ... does this sound like a great idea?
