Thought I'd start a resource thread so that gamers could take a peek at a variety of role-playing games. For the sake of simplicity, this includes pen & paper, play-by-post games, LARPs, and computer & console role-playing games. I'll start with several that I visit frequently. Where appropriate, I have included the link to the host's main website.

RPG.NET
HOST: http://www.rpg.net
FORUMS: http://forum.rpg.net/
PURPOSE: Discussion of anything and everything related to role-playing games of all kinds. Its one of the largest gaming-related sites on the web. If you're looking to get into the business as a writer, an artist, or even a game shop owner, there's a fuckton of information to be had from some of the prominent names in the hobby.
MY SCREEN NAME THERE: Mike Taylor

Palladium Megaverse of Message Boards

Eden Studios Discussion Boards
HOST: http://www.edenstudios.net/
FORUMS: Link Here (http://p205.ezboard.com/bedenstudiosdiscussionboards)
PURPOSE: Discussion of various Eden Studios role-playing games. All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Army of Darkness (Yes, you too can save primitive screwheads from the Deadite menace!), WitchCraft (boy does that RPG name cause some confusion), Armageddon, and the defunct Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel role-playing games.
MY SCREEN NAME THERE: anastas (all lower case)

Kenzer & Company Message Boards
HOST: http://www.kenzerco.com/
FORUMS: Link Here (http://www.kenzerco.com/forums/index.php)
PURPOSE: Discussion of all Kenzerco gaming products and magazines such as Hackmaster (think old-school AD&D gone bug-fuck crazy), Knights of the Dinner Table, Fuzzy Knights, and Kingdoms of Kalamar. This is also where I first met crazyal. Little did I know what I was getting into.
MY SCREEN NAME THERE: Bearbuilder_Mike

I'll post a few more later. Feel free to add your own, but let's keep the format consistent so nobody gets confused.

Nope, you don't want to. The Mods and Admin seem nice at first, but they get VICIOUS when you disagree with them. Or you agree with someone who disagrees with them. Or if you TALK to someone who disagrees with them. One of the mods actually hacked into the database, after stepping down, to make someone they didn't like get around ten thousand negative post votes, changed her avatar, just nasty negative petty revenge. Did I mention he was once the HEAD MOD and webmaster?

They talk a good game, gaming is great and we're all friends... yadd yadda yadda... until you get on thier bad side.

I volunteered to make an awards show, for the forum members. It took months of work to set up, but I wanted to do something to give back. Eventually I set up a panel of longtime members and made it a full fledged event. One of the owners even showed up two years in a row. Last I heard, the mods hijacked a bunch of member's signatures and posted insults and crude jokes as a KFA. "Most BANT" or somesuch (meaning the mod had banned the most people who weren't following "Father Kenzer")

Three years of volunteerism reduced publicly to a joke.

There still are nice people there. The mods and Admins CAN act like human beings and be pleasant. But it's not worth it if you have hippocrites, liars and arrogant pusswads in charge. I could go into great detail, or I could rail like some l33t script kiddie.

I moved on.

Every now and again I vent a little steam, like this.

You could go to Kenzer and have a grand ol time. I did, for several years. But they don't play nice. Kenzer(the owner) only joined the forums after it had been established for years. He ripped them apart because he could. His ball, his rules. They don't sell his magazine where I live anymore, and I saw the Hackmaster rulebook on clearance for $5 last year at DragonCon. They weren't selling. The man FIRED HIS MOTHER the other year. But things are great and peachy in the land of Kenzer.

Yeah... whatever.

Ok, I took a quick look at the kenzerco.com site and the first thing that catches my eye? The Kindom of Kalamar realm. Yes, you too can go on KoK adventures, with KoK Core to guide you and KoK supplements to make your KoK experience that much richer!

I only go there for Fuzzy Knights, myself. The only mod that notices me being there is mossfoot (Noah Chinn) and that's because I only post to his forum.

Crazyal's venting reminds me... here's another board, created during a period where there were numerous tet-a-tets with a past admin of the Palladium Message Board.

Cafe Risque
HOST: fan-run message board.
FORUMS: Link Here (http://p088.ezboard.com/biridiumbooksmultiversalroleplaying)
PURPOSE: Discussion of RPG's and other aspects of geek culture. One of the features of this board is a forum called "Fight Club" where posters can vent their anger at various topics, and each other, (mostly) without repercussions from the mods. I say mostly because a couple of posters have been banned. On the whole, the board is very loose and laid back otherwise.

Swankytown Wars
HOST:Privately maintained by my good friends Zerebus & Darkholme (No, NOT the one Jennie taunts in that old Geebas strip, though he did get a good laugh out of it.)

I usually hang at www.gaiaonline.com

They've got forums for just about everything. I stick to the Comic Discussion Forum and the Comic Creators Forum. The idiots have been weeded out of there for the most part. I RP there as Jaeger_Ayers

Figured I might as well post even though the game might not really be played by people here:

Heroclix, Horrorclix, Bloodbowl.

Mysterious Stranger (http://www.mysterious-stranger.com/forum/)

It's mostly a local scene but we do have rules clarifications and whatnot here in case people are interested in learning how to play. We're all pretty friendly so if you have questions about any of these games we'll be happy to help out. I use the same username as here.
