View Full Version : Canadian Conventions?

Ok...well it's my first time posting and the reason is to ask is if DP has ever been to a Canadian convention. We have a Comic Con, Anime North, and my favorites and first Con the Fan Expo...which is the ultimate meeting of geeks.

Cuz the Fan Expo is a mixture of Horror Con, Gaming Con, Anime Con, Sci-Fi Con, and Comic Con. It's humongous. They all take place in Toronto.

If not...would it be a crazy impossible wish to get you to come up here. Fan Expo is in the summer so it ain't cold :D.

I'm on a hopeless solo mission to get my faveourite American webcomic artists to come to the Fan Expo...please come... Think of the poor Canadian children :D...

PS. I use :D waaay too much. :D

...weak...

You do not scare me...I've been hardened in the fires of one of the toughest forums on the net. The Darkfall Online forums...also known as Forumfall.

Once you survive those fires you're a forum-pro as soon as you come to a new forum.

Aint meant as scaring, just welcoming. We pounce ALL the newbs. I'm just the first.

BTW.. forum rule.. No pouncing until you hit 100 posts!

BTW(the sequal) you MIGHT want to READ the smiley before you use it..

On the topic at hand (after the masses show up and the Behinds bounce, that is..) the best way to get Jennie to come to a place is to give her crash space and planefare.

That's how the Brits got her!

Oh...k well thanks for the welcome...it's certainly interesting, I've never been pounced as a welcome.

*is creeped out by Plunder*

Crashspace and airfare...well the con has been known to do pay artists to come and pay their tickets...but yea I'm a broke college student...who unfortunately still lives at home [cuz its free].... I don't know how I'm gonna get money to pay for next year let alone pay for someone's airfare.

Too bad...it sucks not having my faveourite webcomic artists come up here. The guys from Looking For Group and Pure Pwnage [show] are Canadian so they do come, the guys from Red vs. Blue [show] come all the way from Arizona every year...I think they get paid airfare/hotel...but nobody else. No Ctrl+Alt+Del, Questionable Content among others. :(

Yay! Looking For Group!

Canadian conventions? The comic site's "Extras" link has a subsequent Conventions link (http://www.thedevilspanties.com/conventions.html) with schedule for future con's and photo's from past con's. The only con. in Canada currently listed is Con-Version in Calgary, 15th-17th August this year. Under the schedule for 2009, it says:I'll go to any convention if I can get a plane ticket, hotel room, and a table to sell my books.

Well you're lucky you got your pounce in...but the person after you better watch out.

Anywho I went on the Fan Expo site http://www.hobbystar.com/fanexpo2008/index.html

They have two seperate pdf's one is for indy/small press which I think counts for this comic, and the other is for corporate retailers..

The indy/small press document, by my rough calculations comes to something like $1100 max, and about $850-1000 minimum...depending on the plane ticket, they do plane discounts but I didn't go check...I dunno how expensive tickets from where ever Jennie is coming from.

But yea...Fan Expo Hobbystar are greedy bastards...but they do have a thing that says sometimes they wave the fees [just their fees not including plane and hotel] for guests they deem beneficial for them...etc. [Basically someone they can advertise and get more people to come because of.]

Although I am sure they pay all expenses for "celebrities"

Well, one thing you can do, if you REALLY want this to happen, is stop thinking small. Right now, the forum itself is starting a fund to get people to atlanta who normally wouldn't get to go to DC .

Start looking around at your resources, and other Jennie fans. Jennie got to Britain by a person with extra frequent flier miles. You aren't going to find something like that by asking your friends at school. Broaden your search. IF you change the situations you are using to garner support, you change the equation.

Jennie got to the San Diego comicon by banding together with other artists who were going. Are there any local artists who might donate crash space/advertising/support a fund drive?

You know the area, use it.

:d8o: Jennie's coming to Calgary!

....not that I'm likely to make it to the expo. BUT - if one of my minions is going I will try to send a something along (what? dunno... foodz?). Also can offer good cheap restaurant advice if needed, relatively close to the venue.

oh, and Jennie - you DO know there is a beer festival going on right next door to the Comic Expo right? If I had spare cash I'd be there.

hmmm..... actually, when are you coming in, and how are you getting here? Might be able to help with an airport pickup or something depending on the time & day. It's about a $30 cab ride from the airport to downtown otherwise (once you're down at the expo the C-Train will get you around easily, or cabbing around downtown will be cheap enough to manage). Not sure if you have lackeys in Calgary or not.

*Pushes off wall*

*Aiming at noobie...*

You see a small creature smiling maniacally, and feel fear. This is something you've never encountered before, and it looks as though the creature is probably crazier than the Cheshire Cat, and too focused to be distracted by sparkly vibrating mongooses covered in chocolate and/or catnip and/or pudding, but will be sure to climb on the Troll's shoulder before he pounces.

Mwuahahahaha

And here we go...

Aiming...

Wiggle-butt...

Runs at newbie...

Bypasses noob, speed at Mach 2, flies around corner...

Runs back around corner, putting the fear of Kitten into all watching...

Hi! You definitely want to invest in Troll-resistant armour. Nothing will fully protect you from his awsomness, but you can try.
