Okay..
Since you
A) Have money.
B) Are working the con.
You have the two major things that drag at first conventions, having cash and something to do.
NOW...
What are your plans for the off hours? Shopping, Anime watching, Cosplay, Gaming? The key to having fun at conventions is having something fun to do, and either meeting new people and/or meeting friends.
If you are low on money, or not, it's always good to bring Ramen. There's ALWAYS someone out of cash and begging for food. Ramen is tasty (moreso if you dress it up) and quick, and can be made without a kitchen. Soda that DOESN'T cost 3X what your used to paying is a good thing too!
If you are cosplaying, BRING A SEWING KIT!!! Home-made or store-bought costumes go through a LOT on the con floor. Rips, tears and spills WILL happen. If you are LARPing, bring extra props. You never know when a few toy guns/swords or faux jewlry will come in handy!
Good luck!

lol ok cheers Crazeyal, its nothing huge just in a sports hall so about 4 dozen tables, ill proberbly go look at what they have there and watch a bit of anime between throwing flyers out for read it and weep. but im not sure what else is going there, i know waters free and provided at one of the tables and food isnt such a problem cos theres a McDonalds and a Nandos right outside the campuse and if all else fail 30 mins i can be home and back again.

Camera, plenty of film.
Book for people to sign/draw in might be nice.
Perhaps a change of comfortable shoes if not used to being on your feet all day.

Bathe. Please.
Not aimed at you personally but a lot of con-goers get so wrapped up in all the goings on, even at small cons, that they forget the 3-2-1 rule.
at least 3 hours of sleep per day/night
at least 2 meals per day (candy bars DON'T count)
and at least 1 shower per day
As you will be goffering, the comfortable shoes will make your life a lot less miserable. Someone already said bring a camera but don't forget extra batteries & extra film or cards.
I usually bring some kind of deodorizer with me for the envitable "con funk" or other odd smells.

Huh... You know, that MIGHT be a doable event for me.
Heh, I just noticed that Voltaire's "Devil" looks awfully familiar.
