We are not gay. We simply want a shrubbery. What's gay about wanting a shrubbery? I suppose it could be a gay shrubbery, with lots of cheerful flowers.

You do know that "shrubbery" is supposedly British slang for a prostitute, don't you? So when you say "a gay shrubbery" it takes on a WHOLE new meaning. :p

Kitty!, I'm up for a forum meet-up at Otakon. I think Jennie's scheduled to be at Otakon (which is in August, not July). Just PM me or send me an e-mail on the particulars.

...ponders for a moment... BTW, how did that other meet-up turn out?

The way most bids for world domination generally turn out.

Hilarity ensued. Followed by running and fire.

If your talking about the flower it marsmallow/marshmallow.... if you're talking about the puffed sugar the marshmellow is acceptable since it is a product name at least here in michigan... :dp:

If anyone in this thread was going to otakon, don't expect me or shea to be there. While I have put loads of money away, with college and extenuating expenses coming ever closer, I had to chose between otakon and renfest so I'd be safe. And shea's pretty much in the same boat, methinks.

I chose renfest.

Maybe another time.

Which Renfest? MD or PA? I have a friend working at the PA faire this year and I always hit the MD - worked there too many years not to go at least once or twice.

I've had to bow out of Otakon due to a family commitment. Although my brain is still scarred from seeing the guys bigger than me in Sailor Moon uniforms at last year's. :puke:

DarkPirateShea

The MD renfest. PA is too much of a drive. The MD fest is maybe 20-30 minutes.... or something... can't remember if that's the time with or without faire traffic. Either way, it's not far. This year we are getting kitty! a bodice and it will be epic. :D

That's right, I forgot that they open a weekend earlier this year 'cause Labor Day is on Sept. 1. Which day(s) are you going? Would you like to meet up?

If you're getting Kitty! a bodice, I'd recommend staying away from Moresca. Their stuff looks pretty but too many of my friends have had their Moresca stuff get destroyed far too easily (i.e., following their washing instructions to the letter). Miles Tonne's stuff is nice but I think is too expensive for what they give you. The Leather Rose has some nice choices, tho. Just look out for the kinkier stuff they sell.

Too bad you ladies aren't hitting Dragon*Con. Pendragon Costumes (http://www.pendragoncostumes.com/) will be back again and their stuff rocks! I've gotten two doublet from Nicole and have been very happy with what she made for me. Another on-line vendor who's work I've admired is Journeyman Leather (http://www.journeymanleather.com/). They stay more toward the suedes but look very, very nice and folks I know who have their items swear by them.

Daven also makes leather clothing but is getting swamped with getting set up for the con and other life issues. You may want to ask his opinion as he used to work at the MD Faire as well.

We're going the first weekend. Cuz after that kitty! leaves for college.

It's odd that you don't reccomend Moresca, that's where I got my bodice, and that's what a lot of the faire goers reccomend the most. Though I am thinking of picking up something new this year. Something simpler than the one I've got, without the shoulder/hip extras. And a hat. Imma get me a big hat! Big pirate hat. *nods emphatically*

Oh and that post was pointed at me.

Oh and that post was pointed at me.

Moresca does get a lot of people recommending them, but as I said, quite a few of the folks I know were really disappointed in the longevity of their clothes (shrinking, ripping, fading, etc.)

For my money, if you're gonna get clothing that's going to get a lot of abuse, leather is my first choice. Doublets, jackets, belts, boots, bodices, and stomachers all last for years and are easy to clean if they're leather. Other than that, I'm also a big fan of raw or broadcloth silks, upholstery grade brocades, and heavy/treated cotton blends - especially if you have to work in them. I worked at MD faire for 7 seasons and have been going there since 1987 so having clothing that is long-lived is high on my priorities. I think I have enough garb to outfit two other guys from head to toe.

So... (man, there is no way to say this delicately) you jumping over to the lesbian side of the force for a girl with big boobs or what? I could fix you up with a few people if that's the case. :p

Hm, well if we see you at the faire you should totally show us where to find the good bodices/corsets.

And hats.
I need a good captain's hat.

And for the record, I never claimed allegiance to either team.

Leather or felt captain's hat? For some reason, the leather tricorns are bloody expensive.

And Kitty! has spoken - leather. Gotta love a girl who's into leather. Forgot about Potomac Leather. Definitely worth a stop while shopping.

Ahhh, okay... being indecisive is a good thing ... sometimes...

Kitty!, you're going to college as a poor frosh. Of course your job right now is tenuous and uncertain. Don't stress, 'k?

Wow, small world. I didn't know Patty had a webpage going. Good on her!

I used to work right next to Tall Toad's (fortune telling booth) and have gotten about four or five of their hats over the years. I'm a big fan of their berets - I think I still have my first one from their first year at the faire - but my Cavalier hat is kind of uncomfortable so I just don't wear it. Just my opinion.

I would also check out Holy Cow (end of the Boardwalk). Russell makes really good items (I have two belts by him) and he gets the fit right before you buy. Happy customers = repeat customers.
