My Technomod from CS.com has pointed out to me that I can get a more powerful server with the same company for a little less money a month. I'm thinking of looking into a server move to something that will be better able to handle stuff, and it may just sort this problem out.
The most important thing would be that we'd have to make sure we could import the databases on the other server first.

Check with the host, you might be able to do a straight migration without a reload, depending on how they have the server configured.
On my servers at work I have some virtual boxes. All I need to do is backup and move to new box for it to work. The only thing is you might be down for a short time for it to happen that way.

Redhat to Ubuntu? Any idea? The rest seems to be pretty similar in spec.

Yea that I don't have a clue on. They're both linux distros, but I'm not a linux guy. I'm thinking it would be a reinst of software and migrate the DB with that.

Okay, we're really going to need reports of downtime suffered and the exact times. If you spot it, please report it in this thread.
Cheers!

Don't forget to reference your time zone or convert to UST for Raps so he can know when the problem is his time.
Cause sayin 5 am can be a whole lot of difference if your in LA, Chicago, Orlando, Or London to the poor chap.

We just had another outage, but with a bit of luck we should have enough SQL (pronounced 'yacht') information logged to work out what was going on.
I have a competent volunteer browsing logs as we speak.

Not sure if you're still asking for reports, but I'm getting the 'server busy' message over on CS right now.

Yeah - was me working on the database to try and keep it down to normal levels of overwork. Just keeping it in trim until I can do the major work.

Ok, figured it was better for you to have a record of outages, in case you weren't around to note them.

We're looking into this on every occasion. Short version is that we don't know what's causing it, but it's damned irritating. Longer version is that we've started investigating a new server. It's a last-ditch option, since the specs on this one should keep us going for time to come, but it will have a shiny new case and more processing power and stuff.

Trying something else out in the meantime. May be hope for this server depending on what happens on Sunday. There should be an outage (planned) at the time. We'll see.

New server ordered. Going to be working on it next week. We'll move stuff over when ready.
