I get the goddamned red ring of death. GRRRR! I'm taking the machine back first thing in the morning.

That's why I'm not buying one for at least a year or two. Microsoft needs time to work out the bugs that should have been worked out a year beforehand.

The machines coming this fall will have the technical issues sorted out (new chipset for one). The only reason I bought this one today was because my Wii was doing little more than collecting dust and the old Xbox's trade-in value had dropped to $20.

The problems they seem to have with all the new systems is the reason why I am still just using a PS2.

And Sony is just a might bit worried about that, too. Of course, their big issue is with the PS3s overheating. Why they thought it was a good idea to put the power supply INSIDE the PS3, I'll never know.

I am not surprised the PS3 is having that problem, I am luck that my PS2 hasn't already burst into flames. If I get another system it won't be from Sony.
I love my PS2, had it going on 5 years now, and not a single problem, :D

I have had mine since it came out and it only gave me a little problem after three years of using it to watch DVDs. Then I got a DVD player and no more problems.

I love my PS2, had it going on 5 years now, and not a single problem, :D Which version do you have, the big one or the PS2 (slim)? The slims run flawlessly. About the only issue anybody might have is the CD-ROM lid breaking off.

The old Xbox is a notorious dust magnet. Make sure you use a laser-cleaning disc to keep the lens clean.

It's the original PS2, also have original PSX and PS1 ... all still work fine.
and my Mega Drive.
Just lucky I guess, :)

What I like is that my original Gameboy would still be great to play Tetris if a friend of mine hadn't cracked the screen throwing her bag around.

I never had much trouble with my original xbox. my PS2 is built like a fucking tank. Its survied 2 puppies, and two kids knocking it off the shelf at least 5 times. It will only play some games now and only in the upright posistion. But I've had it since Gran Tursimo 3 came out.
My 360 died about 13 months after I got it. Its in the repair shop now that they are fixing the ring of death for free.
You shouldn't have any trouble returning it. But the retailer doesn't take it back MS has a DOA policy that should get you a free repair or replacement.

I went and swapped it back out today. I've known the manager of this particular GameStop since I moved here and he's a decent guy. He tested the machine for me before I left. The new one appears to be working fine. I'll probably be bringing home a new game tonight.
I know about the three year warranty on the "Ring Of Death". I'm actually one of the media department employees at my local Best Buy. Why didn't I just buy it at my job, you ask? Employees don't get discounts on the consoles, plus Best Buy doesn't take trade-ins on old hardware and games.

Yeah I used to work at a best buy too. Good discount on movies and and some other electronics but nothin' on consoles.

Of course not, they cram more features into what's made nowadays so there's lots more that can break. For example, at Best Buy we sell a side by side refrigerator that has a small TV in the fridge door and a small computer built into the freezer door which has limited web access (notably a weather service). This is in addition to all of the normal features you expect from a top-end model. When's the last time you called the TV repair man to fix your fridge, eh?

How good or poor a store is depends on the management. Good leadership can take piss poor slackers and turn them into productive employees. Bad leadership can kill a store. The one that I work for is a store in transition. They shuffled managers around to try and get this store more up to company expectations. There's still some obstacles, but we're doing much better than in the past.

Sorry, but since I work for the company I put very little faith in that site. I can only go by what I see, and what I've seen has been pretty good.
I'd also point out that where other electronics chains are closing stores (Circuit City, Comp USA) we're expanding both in the U.S. and around the world (We have stores in China and Canada and are expanding into Mexico, Turkey and England) . We also don't fire 3500 of our best sales employees and then tell them they can come back at a lower rate of pay, which Circuit City did earlier this year.

My 360 is doing fine, Ive had it since the day the ps3 came out and it's never gone bad on me. Ive even left it on a few times as a cd player for an entire night and Im getting no burn outs or rings of death.
Although my poor elder scrolls disk got scratched somewhere along the way, but that happens with every thing that has a disk.

That's pretty much the reaction I've seen from all BB employees, except the EX ones. Just because a person hasa negative experience, doesn't mean that a positive one is impossible. The VERY real fact is that the opposite is true also.

I'm guessing your biggest competitor ATM is Fry's Electronics.

X Box 360's sign that it is no longer working. The normally green glow turns red, indicating a problem with the hardware. It's a glitch, suposedly worked out in newer models.

Gamers aren't extremely imaginative, if someone is indicative of their gizmos no longer wokring it gets the title "Of Death" like the blue screen of death and the ring of death.

The power switch is surrounded by three LEDs that emit a green glow. Even one of them turning red indicates a problem. All three turning red indicates hardware failure, meaning the machine is, in fact, dead. The particular glitch that ALL 360s currently in circulation (11.9 million) suffer from is poor management of internal heat. This has been fixed in the models that are shipping from China this fall (spring for the Aussies and New Zealanders). In fact, I understand that EB Games Australia has ordered a recall of all the units it sold.
The old saying "They just dont make things like they used to" certainly applies to technology.
Means you have to go out and spend more money.
Few years back there was type of plate that was pretty much unbreakable. They stopped making them cause they realised they were losing money cause people didn't need to buy replacements.

Aussies always did get a better deal with MS than us Americans. The government backs up the consumer a lot more there. (Actually made my job easier when I was running xbox support for the region) I just authorized whatever would shut the customer up, because it was easier than dealing with a government inquiry.

What sort of klutzes out there are continually breaking plates? Even the breakable ones last forever if you take care of them.

They're Correl, and they are still being made. The company never changed the formula, they just changed the "unbreakable" part. Because the plates are breakable if you thermo-shock them they explode, or if they land just right they will break in half. Correl used to offer a free replacement if a plate, bowl or cup broke, don't know if they still do. And you would be surprised at how often people replace they're stoneware (plates, bowls and crap) because they're no longer in style. Which is why basic white tends to be more expensive because your less likely to replace them whereas the prints usually only have a 10 yr style life..... though my gransma still uses the green leaf pattern that is as older then me...

Smashed a Corelle plate about a month ago, although I've also seen them bounce (this was a bowl with food in it; empty fares better).
They are CHEAP, so wouldn't be a surprise either way if the company did/didn't replace them. I doubt they get many requests these days.

Keep that stuff locked up. My family has a similar set of dishes, though not quite as expensive. They rarely ever get used. I think the last time they were brought out was when my cousin Matthew was born, and he's now married and starting a family of his own.

i'd have more if the wine decanters original bath oil hadn't been used. because its both empty and the seals broken its value went down, but thats the only item to have been opened since my grandmother started purchasing them. i even have the hostess' bell. its the beautiful ruby red cape cod series. theres been two more releases of it and now a gorgeous sapphire blue version coming out, but i have a complete set for a service of 8 of the original. i figure i'll save it for when i eat with the president or something.
