Anyone else looking forward to it?

I've never really been into the wargaming side of GW products as im very much can't paint won't paint but i have always liked the setting and visuals. Not to mention that it should be using a similar rules system to warhammer fantasy which has always been one of my favorite rpg systems.

So long as they don't treat it the same way they do the wargame (needless revisions designed to make you buy new product), I think it will do okay.

I will burn the galaxy in the name of the Emperor. Innocence proves nothing!

(I will also paint the Emperor red to make him go fasta)

There were 40K rules out years ago... I don't know if they were lost to the anals of time but I remember spending a night trying to play with a bunch of friends down in Orlando some 17 years ago now......

God I'm old... someone get me my cane....

I used to have a copy of the original Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader rules many, many years ago. The artwork within it was absolutely beautiful. Somewhere, I also have an Imperial war robot, a shitload of badly painted Eldar and Space Marines, some Terminators, and... some original Chaos Renegades (http://solegends.com/citcat911/c2106chaosrenegades-m.htm). I'm betting that they are packed away in one of the boxes I left behind at my parents' place.

Nah, that's an Ork warcry, usually heard before the Cult of Speed runs your ass over, then you get pummeled by Pulsa Rokkits.

Oh My boyfriend just went to the Auckland wargaming tournament this weekend. He has a Chaos Space Marines army, it's awesome. He got a lot of compliments on his cohesive colour scheme and very cool conversions of standard models. I went down to where they held it on the Saturday to check out the other armies. I have huge admiration for players with well painted and themed armies, as I am fascinated will all things tiny and intricate, and there were some very nicely done ones amongst the 40K, Fantasy and Lord Of The Rings armies. I didn't even know anything about 40K LARP, but I've read a bit of fanfic, some of the Black Library books (Novels set in the 40K world by various writers who work for Games Workshop) and my boyfriend reads a couple of very funny 40K inspired webcomics, Exterminatus Now (It's 40K with Furries!!!!) and Turn Signals On A Land Raider. (The game from the model armies'point of view)

40k LARP? No, this is tabletop gaming. Good God, I can't even begin to fathom how anybody would try to pull off a 40K LARP, especially if you're going for the Space Marine angle.

Crazeyal

Well why NOT a SM angle? You think a campaign would last 3 seconds if you did the NORMAL rp party??

"For the EMPORER!!"
"Why would I follow that decaying lump of coal? OUR gods can actually WALK!"
"Ressistance is futile!!.. er I mean.."
"JUS DIE 'READY!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH

(*automatic gunfire, plasma fire and explosions go off()

DM: okay.. you are all dead... Could we at least get PASSED MEETING next time?

Everyone: ..no..

I'm simply looking at it from a costuming and logistics standpoint. You might be able to slide on Imperial Guard and Orks, but even a single Space Marine costume is going to be expensive to make and a tad awkward to use. And just where in the world can you find a 1:1 scale Land Raider? :p

I know of a few airsofters who have gone for a 40K inspired loadout

larp would have to be on the scale of gang battles like in necromundia? or small scale investigations like inquistitor. I've seen chain swords and other modern themed larp weapons, it would just be how to phys-rep firearms which is always my bugbear in modern larp systems.

For the small arms, your best bet is to go for something like a Nerf gun or a Super Soaker. Or you could go absolutely crazy like these guys...

I has a platoon (5 5-man squads or so) of Chaos Catachan with a Vanquisher Battle Tank, a mortar crew, a lascannon, a Chimera Flamer Variant, and two Sentinels bearing Lascannons and close combat weapons.
....
My brother has an army of over 3000 points minus the tanks of various Catachan and IG, a Leman Russ Demolisher tank, a Chimera (NS of the variant), a Basilisk with Earthshaker Cannon, and a Baneblade.

That's most of it.

I've tried Inquisitor a couple times, and while it could get to the point of starting to get interesting, I'll take any of the pen&paper games over it any day. (D&D, Earthdawn, Shadowrun, GURPS)

hmmm, maybe a WH40K LARP could be fun...
I'll be a Ripper swarm. I'm gonna crawl towards you, just throwing hitpoint tags left and right. If I get to you before I run out, I get to eat your legs.

Well, now you know why so many women get turned off to RPGs. They encounter creatures like THAT. See, you need to go in with Jennie and a flamethrower. If you want to kill them outright, bring along Braveharlot and Ice Demon....

Let us not dispise them. Let us pity them, as even I can talk to women without scarring them for life.

it was only scary because they like converged en masse. one doing the whole creepy bit is actually cute. 8 is creepy. i figure i need to make sure only 3 or less are in store before actually taking a peek in.

most of us know not to wander in those stores without accompaniment. not saying all those stores are employed and shopped by the weirdoes only but its safest.

like going into the stores with the perfume testers with the only person you know with a poorly functioning nose. you need someone else to throw at the hoarde.

Hey, scaring total strangers is fun. It's creeping them out that should generally be avoided. Of course, I still remember that one time back in California when a buddy of mine and I wandered into a Hot Topic. I saw something, a sticker or patch I think, that I found quite amusing an started chuckling about. What I didn't know right away, but my friend saw, was the two Goth kids standing nearby, looking up when I started chuckling, and nervously backing away. Being creepy can be fun.:dgrin:

I've bought a few of my space pirate bits and baubles from Hot Topic. Of course, the lady that runs the local shop is 40 and smokin' hot....

For those that were awaiting Dark Heresy and for those that play the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying Game there's bad news.

From this thread (http://forum.blpublishing.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4025&PN=1)

Black Industries regret to announce that Dark Heresy: Disciples of the Dark Gods out in September will be the final product to be released from Black Industries.

Kevin Rountree General Manager of BL Publishing said ‘As a result of the continued and impressive success of our core novels business, which we have built around 40K and Warhammer, we have decided to focus all of our efforts on growing this part of our business. Black Industries has seen fantastic success, most recently with Talisman and Dark Heresy. This change does not take away from that achievement rather it allows BL Publishing to focus on producing the best novels we can. This is a purely commercial decision and will enable us to carry on the huge growth that we have recently been experiencing with our novels’

For the time being Black Industries will continue to post articles in support of the products on their official website, which is a fantastic resource for scenarios and gaming tools for GM’s and players alike.

The Dark Heresy rulebook sold out so if you want one you might want to pick it up now. There's been no word about a 2nd printing.
