I used to do that with my car until someone stole the balloon....

I was forever loosing it in parking lots, small car big parking lots. kept a 2' diameter helium ballon in the trunk on a 30' leader. park the car release the balloon and real easy to find car when ready to leave...

until someone stole it that is, took 2 hours to find the car after.

I went to Uni in London, and for three years if people needed to find me, I always told them to look for the red-head. I think there were three of us in a class of three hundred.

A good friend who's had a shitty year is wanting to make it to Dragon Con, but we have no space in our room.
He's a bit on the broke side, but would be able to put $100 to floor space, and on the plus side is small and easily fits into luggage.
He is single, recently broken up, but a good, honorable man who just happens to be a bit silly and flirtatious.

Don't remember meeting her when we saw the jiangshi but I was distracted by watching the Noid being insanely stupid - kind of like watching the "Duck Season / Wabbit Season" cartoon come to life right in front of us. But yeah, the geek knowledge factor was way low in this area. As for the Agua, hmmm, flammable liquids in the luggage = not good. Botas? Is shipping an option? I can help defray the costs. BTW, did you ever get the Richard statue or Hellboy - Sword of Storms DVD? Just curious... :didea:

News from Dragon Con 08

Well, matt's camera is shite but we took what pictures we could then we met up with al and better pictures as a result of al's better camera. We also met up with Meg, Jak, Silverharp, seolta and (gasp) IK out of makeup. :D

We saw James Marsters, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Dr. Horrible's Singalong blog (with sing a long) and Buffy Horror Picture show. (afterwards is when we met up with al and proceeded to drink until it was too late to take Marta home and crashed in Al's room (thanks to Al and his wifey).

and (best part ever) MEETING JENNIE!!!!! ::FANGIRL SQUEE!!!!!!:: and enjoyed the madness after midnight.

ALSO, matt was sweet and bought me lots of devil's panties stuff for my birthday and an amazing pirate hat. :D Pics when we get home.

It was a good weekend for the Troll King, got to meet Edward James Olmos, Michael Hogan, Beau Bridges, Trace Beaulieu (with whom I had a nice long talk), and James Callis; Sean Astin Took a picture of me and him with his camera, as did Gigi Edgley who was flirty and got a picture with my finger up her nose. I also got flirty with Hayden Panettiere and we long distance french kissed, and by that I mean that we stuck tongues out at each other.

There were a lot more that I got to meet, celebrity and non-celebrity, and there's no way to list them all without giving myself carpal tunnel.

I got to meet Jennie, what was a hoot - we exchanged buttons, which I guess is some weird kind of communion not unlike dogs sniffing each other's butts, and we got a pic of her and I , with my finger up her nose as well I think (just think, Jenniecould be sharing snot with Gigi Edgley!), and I'm hoping she'll be posting pics soon.

I also got to me Tamora Pierce, and got to tell her about a friend of mine, who's life she had a major and possitive influence. Tamora gave me a note to give this person, as a token of hope and strength.

Hm...I might can do a bit better'n pictures(though the boyperson took lots of those, too)...one of my roomies was playing "roving reporter" and interviewed several people via videocamera...including myself(eep!), Al, and Daven. There's also footage from Saturday night's kilt-blowing(the beginning, anyways), and possibly some other stuff. Not sure yet when/if any of it will be available for actual viewing, but can certanly check...

Oh, and apologies for not tagging along Friday night; I get kinda...antsy...in close-packed spaces, and loud noise makes me even more on-edge, so I figured it was best to go ahead and get to somewhere quieter. Avoided the parties for similar reasons...

Lessee...didn't attend any panels this time, had an attack of nerves during the parade(fortunately was not IN the parade), and my car got booted sunday because we paid for the next day early without realizing that until the previous parking-time actually expired, we couldn't extend it, only get the same expiration time again. BUT, I also got to play dress-up, hang out with friends, finally meet a few people from here(AsianMommy, her boytoy, CrazeyAl, Greyloch, and Daven(kinda) are the ones that come to mind at present...tried to say hi to JAK, but he was too busy rounding folks up to say hi back), delivered baked goods to Jennie, delivered little sister to Jennie(and got to watch said sister proceed to fangirl like mad), play a game or two, and see lots of nifty costumes.

But on a happier but off topic note - amusing consuite story. One of the very buxom Slave Leias (Joolee?) brought into the con suite cherries that had been marinating in rum (I think) for 14 months. Those things were wicked evil... and not in a good way. Everytime I chewed, more alcohol was released. It was like eating a bottle of rum. Very strong, burning rum.

I believe that the cherries were ultimately given to the Atlanta Police as a thank you from the con.

Wish someone could bring back Badger Brew (courtesy of the House of Drunken Badger) from Pennsic next year. That stuff was awesome in liquid form. Here's the slightly modded original. My suggestion is play around with a few batches, see what works well for you

Krupnikas Recipe
A Lithuanian Honey Liquor

Ingredients

* 2 Tbsp orange zest
* 1 Tbsp lemon zest
* 3 sticks cinnamon (break lightly)
* 4-5 pods of cardamon, lightly crushed (approx 12 seeds to a pod)
* 1 nutmeg, lightly crushed
* 3-5 cloves (leave whole)
* 1 tsp. fennel seed, crushed
* 3-4 allspice, lightly crushed
* 1 tsp black pepper, lightly crushed
* 1 tsp white pepper, lightly crushed
* or 2 tsp grains of paradise, lightly crushed
* 3-4 thin slices white ginger
* 3-4 thin slices red ginger (if available)
* 1 Tbsp or 3 sticks of vanilla
* a pinch of saffron (for color)
* 3 lbs. honey
* 2 quarts of water if using Everclear or 1 quart if using Rum
* 750 ml - 1 cup of clear Rum + 1 to 2 cups of 150 proof for a little extra heat (Dark rum is too bitter, the flavors don't mesh at all for the main ingredient)

Put water in large pot.
Simmer dry spices until fragrant and the water is down to 2 cups.
Add moist spices.

Silverharp's note: For this part, I pour the spiced water through a strainer and cheesecloth into a pyrex measuring cup to ensure that I have the right amount of water, and because it's easier than straining with the honey added. Pour back into the warm pot, add the honey and stir until dissolved. For those of you who have never heated honey before, the smallest amount of simmer brings a LOT of boil over to the party, and a lot of scum to be dredged. If you need to heat the water up slightly, bring it back to a simmer, turn the heat off, then add the honey. Much less mess all around

When blended, add honey, simmer but do not boil.
When honey is dissolved, remove spices (strainer).

Remove from any flame source and add alcohol. (IMPORTANT!! NO FLAMES MEANS NO KABLOOEY!!)

Let cool and bottle in sterilized containers.
Makes 2-3 quarts.
Let sit for 30 days and slowly pour out the amber liquid into another container, being careful to leave as much of the sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Repeat every 2 weeks and in about 3 months you'll have a light amber color to the product with very little floaties.

Some people drink this right away, but it is highly recommended that you let it age in the bottle in a dark, cool place for at least 6 months.
The longer this ages, the better it gets.
(Two year old Krupnikas is as smooth as the best brandies.)

Next year we have a booze off!! who can make the best batch of amber goodness!

Haha! Quite a few costumes I actually saw at the con. A surprising number of pictures of friends of mine being the subject. And somehow you even managed to get me in 3 of the photos, including one I totally have 0 memory of being taken.

You also have a few costumes that I never saw, and as always I wonder to myself, 'What was I doing when this picture was taken?' To which the answer usually is.... Good times!

I had this happen to me recently. He litterally said to me (after I told him how interested I was in him), "Well, I saw you taking pictures, and I was glad to get to talk to you later, but the more I talked to you, the more I realized you had to be taken. Because there's no way a girl like you could have been single."

If I wasn't looking into his eyes when he said it, I'd have thought it was just another line. Prolly the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to. Probably one of the more infurriating things too.

Thank you. Wow. Next year, if you want really cool looking pix of the poi, just get me to the drum jam with the belly dancers. I got some shots of me and others the past few years that were really trippy looking.

And for the record, I truly did not plan to spin my poi during the kilt blowing but Lessa asked. And I'm kinda glad she did - I went on after Jak and Daven and I really need some kind of prop when following those two!
