Greetings fellow Geebas readers. So I've been reading Jennie's (Hi Jennie!) comic for a while and am dying to try out this Solar thing, but can't seem to find anywhere to play it! Does anyone know of a Solar group in southern California, or is it only a southern thing? If there's not....wanna start one?
I know we have the SCA, but the fantasy aspect appeals to me more.

SOLAR (Southern Organization For Live Action Reenactments) exists only in the Southeastern U.S.

Here's a couple of links you might try for other LARPs, though. I'm not sure how current they might be as I am copying them from RPG.net.

I'm not sure if it's at all associated with Nero or the like, but there's a combat larp some friends in Irvine go to...

Thanks for all of the links! Nero is only up in San Jose :( I'm checking out the other links though.

There's also a NERO-once-removed (Mike Ventrella's bunch of campaigns, who changed names to get away from the bad International vibes) in San Francisco. They have a forum at:

And that bunch is a part of a whole chain of chapters as well- http://www.alliancelarp.com/index.php

I've played in NERO in eleven chapters, in six different states...Some were good, some were wretched. It depended entirely on who is running the local chapter.
The rules, races and style are very similar to SOLAR, so if you think SOLAR looks fun from the comic...
I'm not familiar with the S.F. group. I know some of the folks who run the San Jose group (http://www.nerowest.com ), though...they are slow to respond to emails, but they are good, fair and imaginative people. The San Jose folks are running an event starting in...um...11 minutes.
Gee, I have to run.
Edited to add: Apparently, the NERO West folks have for years been considering opening branches in LA and San Luis Obispo. If you're serious about starting a new group in southern CA, give them a call. They can probably help! http://www.nerowest.com/home/announcements.html

The folks holding the name...well, I've met Valenti, seen some of his dodgy business practices. Makes my skin twitchy. Some of the people who run games in his organization are good peoples, however. I wouldn't play in any game under his organization at this point, but then again I'm like Jennie- I play in one of the splintered-off games that grew from the original.

I know there are a ton of SCA and WhiteWolf groups here in San Diego, but I can't seem to find many NERO or SOLAR type games. Everything seems to be farther north.
So, long story short, anyone in San Diego interested in starting one? :)
