Does anyone have a good, reliable source for Tri-corns? Preferably leather and preferably inexpensive (under $150)?

(For anybody unsure of what that is, a picture)

It's not leather, but I found a really cheap way to make one. The local Dollar Tree had cowboy hats in a variety of colors(including both black and brown), made out of the same sort of foam you buy in sheets and pre-punched shapes at the craft store, and amazingly they were the right size for an adult head. The outside/top of the hat was flocked, so it's got a nifty texture, too. That, plus three staples makes for a nice tricorn, though I'm planning on using needle+thread to replace said staples, and possibly trimming it up, adding feathers, etc. Also seriously thinking of going back for a brown one to play with, and might pick up a few spares...could always try selling the finished product on etsy or something.

Have you looked at the Village Hat Shop (http://www.villagehatshop.com)? They've got damn near everything or at least links to other hat makers to look at.

Tricorns weren't leather to begin with. The "pirate tricorn" was usually felt which was oiled repeatedly over the years for waterproofing to the point of looking like leather.

But if you want one of leather ... here (http://www.mwart.com/xq/ASP.product/pid.1531/qx/leather-tricorn-hat.htm)

Somewhat related, I don't want to buy one but rather make one.

Does anyone know where I might find detailed instructions to do so?
Preferably with lots of pictures. (I'm a visual learner, yo)

Will make schweet hat for info.

That is not at all instructions..

Instructions: Take a cowboy hat, straw hat, or other wide-brimmed hat-form that fits your head, fold the brim up, staple it in place in tricorn fashion. Trim as desired(hot glue is your friend).

Psh, that's not nearly as fun as making is from scratch, though. :p

No, but the results are much, much prettier...I made a zorro hat(seamless) out of black felt for halloween one year...it was ok, but not great.

Three horned horse people and tricornered hats?
This is why I'm a ninja, when we have a topic that starts with one idea it tends to end up with a battle royale that destroys the planet and at least 83% of it's inhabitants, which is why space ninjas never stay still very long. And we have backpacks with rockets...

Sheer ninja focus. Demonstrated right there...

Plenty of good tricorns can be found HERE (http://jas-townsend.com/index.php?cPath=6).

Yes ik but townsend doesn't have leather tricorns. Of course, as has been said before, neither did pirates, as a rule, but that is secondary to looking cool.

So here is one for $78

one for $105
http://www.underthemysticalmoon.com/piratewear.html
one for $95

one for $80

one for $75

Happy wenching.

I have a really nice leather one that I got last year for $100. (it even has bendable metal wiring along the top edges, so it holds it's shape)

Problem is, I can't remember the name of the place...but it was at the St. Louis Pirate Fest last year.
And that just happens to be going on right now & I know that the same vendor is out there in the same place. I'm going out this weekend, so will get a card and pass on the info on Sunday evening.
