What do you work as?

Wayne
07-19-2007, 03:19 PM
I am a District Executive with the Boy Scouts of America. Since our council consists of 18 counties and my districe of 5 counties is 2 hours away from the main office I work out of my apartment.

so... you get to go camping and stuff regularly?

Wayne
07-19-2007, 05:38 PM
I did have to spend a week out at Summer Camp as the professional to do training for the leaders, but I got to cheat and stay in one of the small staff cabins. I will use my tent when my district has camporee weekends for the Troops.

Mostly I am at the events to stop any problems that might come up. I do not do any work that involves working with the Scouts directly. I am suppose to be the person who recriuts and trains the volenteer leaders, try to raise money for the programs through fundraising, and I go out to schools and churches to try to start new troops and get kids to join scouting.

both Boy and Girl Scouts frighten me. my mom tried to push me into girl scouts when i was little and i couldn't stand it. especially when i saw how much more fun my brothers got being with the boys scouts. but all the adults i ever met involved with either set off my "psycho-zealot" alarm so i just hated it.

i mean i love the idea of having groups that teach our children things they normally wouldn't know while allowing them to socialize and learn vital skills. i just don't like psycho-den parents.

besides, i loved having an excuse to get my brother the shirt that said "I got kicked out of Scouts for eating a Brownie"

Wayne
07-19-2007, 06:15 PM
Oh yeah, that saying has been around since I was in scouts.

And those psyco den leaders are the worst since they do drive the kids and parents away. As a matter of fact I had a leader stop by since a certin leader just ran out the packs Cubmaster.

Leffy
07-19-2007, 06:48 PM
most my real problems stemmed from the fact that the psycho parents ground heavily on the religious aspects of it all. granted great rules to live by stemmed from these parts but DAMN is there anything out there we can use to raise our kids right that doesn't require hardball religious themes?

Wayne
07-19-2007, 06:59 PM
It is true that some take it too far with religion, I had another DE in my training class who was a little too right wing Christian for me.

I don't think that as Scouts in general we focus on it, but it is one of the main basic principles that we are founded on. Mostly we want the Scouts to learn how to be 'Reverent', as in believing that there is more out there, be it orginized religion or nature itself.

The Bible belt can do that sometimes. Thankfully not any zealots in my tri-state area of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio that I have run into yet.

I wanted to be a boy scout instead of a girl scout. This was before I got TEH GAY COOTIES. So I'd probably get the boot if I had found a way in.

But yeah, huzzah for custom titles!

There were 2 girls in the boy scouts at the same time as me, one of them was better than me at all that scout stuff.

Nice custom title Paige

the boy scouts were too lame for me, I spent three weeks in the woods in a tree made into a lean-to... that was an interesting excuse note for my absence from school.

Seolta

...am I the only one whose Girl Scout troop did the whole "running, jumping, climbing trees, building things with hammer&nails, playing with knives, etc" thing? We did primitive camping at least twice a year, and went on one big trip per year, usually things like white-water rafting or trips to the mountains. My brothers' dens didn't do nearly as much "boy" stuff as we did, and we had time for arts and crafts and first-aid certification and the like on the side.

...then again, my mom was one of our troop leaders...

I was a Cub Scout, myself. Being that our pack was based out of the Methodist church I used to attend, the religion aspect was there but not really emphasized. By the time I had all four of my badges, our pack had gone from about twenty kids to six or seven. We all turned out pretty good, I think. I never progressed to being a Boy Scout. By that point, I had other, geekier interests.

Maz

Wasn't able to join scouts. I love all that camping, creativity, et cetera stuff. But I got stuck in Brownies then Girl Guides. Have a friend who has convinced me to join this organisation that goes and camps in the middle of the country for two weeks. But at my age I have to join as a leader. All voluntary, but they cover expenses and get beer money, for supplies - seriously it's called Beer Money. :dgrin:

So looking forward to it. Just hope they let me join.

Here for the BSA we do have our Venture program which is for boys and girls age 14-20 that mainly do high adventure trips.

And it is nice to hear that most everyone had some type of positive experience with Scouting.

I once vocalized a worry that I wasn't "big enough" to a girlfriend when I was 18. She gave me this "are you serious?" look, kissed me on the cheek and informed me I was plenty big. Never worried about it since.

... they're paid to be humongous. besides gotta keep the "actress" happy, and if shes been in the business long, she needs something special to enjoy her work.

what i never understood was my first's shame in gym class. he was a grower. but thought he had to be extra tiny because apparently some of the other guys were showers. though from what i heard from the other girls... i got the good one.

Like you said, if the relationship is all good and the sex is good, it's a rather silly thing to be worried about. That's little comfort to an insecure 18 year old though. Some things literally do take time and experience to fully appreciate and understand.

Leffy
07-20-2007, 05:38 PM
our biggest problem in that area was that he was too big :( kinda kills all romance when you're constantly going owwww and bleeding frequently. frightened the hell out of me that he thought he was too small and that there were possibly bigger men out there.

Growers PWN show'ers. But 'afore you're experienced it's intimidating to be a grower as (in most cases) you have no basis for comparing the erm, 'full meal deal'.

I consider myself damned lucky - managed to find a 'perfect fit' the first/only time around. Well, maybe not a perfect fit.... I certainly wouldn't be able wear clothes that tight. :dgrin: But very compatible on length, most positions.
