Crazyal already touched on this down in the Off Topic forum, but I thought I'd post about it here so that the new members are aware. Bear in mind that I am not a mod or the admin, just a regular poster.

Recently, one of our board regulars, a woman, was propositioned for "cyber sex" via IM and she refused the offer. The person, not a regular poster, who approached her pressed the issue, saying that he just "knew" it was going on around here and wanted to know why she wouldn't do it with him.

While it's true that there is a lot of flirting and innuendo that goes back and forth, this isn't a board for people to "hook up" for sex. There are other places for that. Obviously, what people do over IM on their own time is their own business, provided no laws are broken.

We want to try to create a sense of community and fun here and that's hard to do if regulars are made to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. We pride ourselves on the fact that we don't need an army of mods to keep things running here and I'd like to see it stay that way.

Best,

Mike Taylor

I'd like to add a couple of things.

First of all, this site is run by me for Jennie's benefit. It's linked on her front page and is therefore part of the marketing for her work. I was a touch concerned when she said a while back that she had people saying that we scared them from joining the forums, though I thought there was a tongue-in-cheek aspect to this. It's apparently not the case - let's not chase off the normals, folks.

The other aspect is that we've never needed site rules before. When we moved to this forum software, I made sure the only one we had was "Respect your fellow forumers," or something like that. I really don't want to go down the route of writing up a code of conduct for everyone and having to enforce it.
