ok so i'm really getting a table at momocon this year. i just started work on making a small studio with one of my friends.

i know i'm going to try to get a few of my comics published to sell in time along with some other stuff. i'm just testing the waters here.

would it be better to start off with just a little 24 to 30 page comic with the i feel twitchy stuff or to just go ahead and do a small paperback?

also what other stuff would you guys suggest. we do have a few t-shirt designs we're printing now and a couple of original plushies, but we want to know what people would like to see.

thanks

OKAY...

Speaking as a consumer and a webcomic enthusiast.. start small. Artists with followings can charge $20 for a full color yaddah yadda yaddah with prints going for hundreds yaddah yaddah..

A buck or two, with some freebies available to get people over to the table, is what I've seen work with unknowns. I've seen people with MAD TALENT, get ignored when they tried to get compensated for FANTASTIC work.. with no following.

Now.. I'm a well known perv and all.. but presentation is king. Want guys coming over? Boobs sell stuff. Want girls coming over? Yoai. (yowie?? lol!!)

I know you are shy and won't consider being a "BOOTH BABE" but perhaps wearing your cosplay WHILE selling might attract intrest. (yah yah.. and you don't want strange guys perving on ya while wearing a bikini.. I GOT IT!!! sheesh..):dgrin:

Jennie knows better than I do, but from what I've seen.. start small and try to be unique. Good luck.

Yeah, fanart sells like crazy. As does yaoi, but I did pretty well without either. I do jewelry shaped like onigiri with little faces on them, and one dollar chibi commissions. This is insanely cheap as commissions go, but I just do a chibi version of the person, or something else they request, and color it with Bic Permanent markers. I'm working on Kitteh Earred hats, prints, and my comic.

So, if you want attention, do something people recognize alongside your original stuff. I personally always look through artist's original and ignore the fanart, unless it's really cute or funny, but I'm not the majority at all.

Oh, and Crazy Al's right. Show off your goods and you'll definitely get noticed.

I'm fairly sure this would work (http://meghasissues.comicgenesis.com/d/20070926.html), but you might need one of these (http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/d/20020322.html) for "stop petting her and buy something" time.

we started screenprinting our one shirt that doesn't have a cute design on it it's just the regular white words on black shirts (also black words on colored shirts for us) that simply read "I'm not the booth babe, I'm the artist"

we thought it might help our sales a little

Usual rule of unintendeds, that. I went to Erotica 2004 at GMEx and the amid all the contortionists, outfits, toys, costumes, other toys, videos, magazines, porn star photoshoot opportunities and everything else by far the sexiest thing present was one of the young ladies doing make-up demonstrations. I nearly joined the queue just to get her to touch me. I suppose that's sort of like Jennie's "Ooooh, NICE shoes" in reverse.

yea some of those cons they even volunteer to be trussed up bound and gaged...

And I won't even go into the things beyond that cause well there's minors running around here:dcool:

If you look and smile like her, you can probably get them to volunteer for use as stepping stones.

I'm sure there are numerous ways to achieve it. Straddling the volunteer's thighs in black leather jeans and a very dark purple velvet top with a deep purple satin frill around a low scooped neckline, grabbing his chin with a hand clad in elbow-length PVC gloves with lots of buckles up the backs and lifting his face away from your neckline while you do his eyeliner ought to create a queue.

i'm way late on schedule but i'm about a week away from sending the book into the publisher!

we also thought of some greeting card stuff

would it be cheesy and wrong to make one that says "I miss you like lolrus misses his bucket" ?
