dude. you brought up another memory that probably explains my warped mind. when i was little we always had atleast 5 pets. well one day my cousin made me watch pet semetary. while we were watching one of the dogs got hit by a truck. no parents or adults home just me, my younger siblings and my 13 and 14 year old cousins. we went out and got the dog. its not waking up. so we wrap it up and attempt to bury it. barely half an inch of dirt ends up covering my grandmas quilt. later in the afternoon, around dinner time, my parents are home my cousins have left, and theres this scratching at the back door. thinking its one of the other dogs i go to let it in. instead heres my dirty golden retriever, with a dirtier blanket draped over it limping and whining. freaked me out. took forever to be told that the dog had been unconcious and longer for me to beleive it. i was never comfortable around sandy again.

The jello talk reminded me of a couple former students that my wife counseled 13 odd years ago when she first started out as an elementary school counselor. Two boys, one name Lemongelo and the other name Orangelo. Yes, that's right, lemmon jello and orange jello. Only they sounded more like lay-mahn and oh-rahnj. You do know that Oranjello and Lemonjello (Oranjeeo and Lemonjeeo) are an Urban Myth, right? When my parents were college students in Tallahassee FL in the late sixties, there were stories about those names then.

Sehson
07-23-2007, 06:44 PM
Actually as an urban myth... it is not so much a myth anymore.
Like I said a friend of mine, no reason to make it up, whom used to work for the Michigan MICHILD program, health care for kids whose folk are on welfare. processed claims for lemongello and orangello. She also process claims for wiskey, vodka, Tangeria, Bud wiser smith, Philistean, female ( this child was all of 1 year old in 2004) and more then a few other child abuse worthy names.
I have personally known, Candy Bar, Harry Boner, Mike hunt (x3), Dick Cock, Vagina Chunt, Bile Duk.
So while these may have originated as urban myths, well people are stupid. And well Rednecks and people whom don't speak english will and have found english words that sound nice to the ear to be good names.
Thus why engrish is so popuar over seas... AKA the 8 yr old wearing the t-shirt that reads Fuck me hard...

My friend used to find all kinds of fun names...at a call center, she got acquainted with a woman named "Gaye Hymen-Queen"...we know the woman did this on purpose, because she kept going on about how she'd chosen to hyphenate her name when she got married a couple weeks before.
Had a patron come in one day, last name of Virtue. Had four daughters and two sons. The daughters' names were Patience, Charity, Faith, and Hope. The sons were named after Beatles...or apostles.
Another amusing one I heard of recently was a guy who'd lived in Atlanta his entire life...his parents(whose last name was Sherman) named him William. Everyone called him "Bill the Torch."
Only encountered two families with odd methods of naming kids, I grew up with.
Giles couple wanted to name all their kids after plants, so they had two daughters - Daisy and Clover - but when they had a boy they decided to go easy on him, and instead of calling him Moss they settled for Oliver.
Alexander couple, both their names began with M so they decided to do the same for their kids. Last I heard they had 6 kids, Martin, Michael, Matthew, Murray, Megan, (can't remember the newest addition, but was at uni by that point).
The only thing my own family has been odd with names is that there has always been a Peter and many many Johns. And have told my mother I refuse to use either name for when I have kids, she'll just have to pester one of my younger sibs about it.
Ruestir
07-24-2007, 12:27 PM

my father named me and my sister, and my mother named my brothers.
after digging through a year book i learned my first name came from his first "experience" with a girl, and my middle was his first girlfriend. thats how i ended up with something as redneck as Wendy Sue.
my sister was purely to be mean. my aunt of the time had been a real evil bitch at my mother because she beleived my mother had wanted to steal her thunder at being pregnant, because it was revealed they were both knocked up in roughly the same week. so she made life hell on my uncle and refused to let him hang out with "such an inconsiderate asshole brother." my father learned from my aunt linda what she wanted to name her kid and since angie was a whole 5 weeks early named her Angela Denise to spite her. safe to say i don't see THEM too often.
my brother was named after my father's middlename and my grandfather. Patrick James, flows rather nicely, but on either side of the family i have 8 Patricks, and 12 james. family reunions are fun with that one.
the baby brother was named after a soap opera character and my great uncle who passed two days before his birth. Joshua Leon led mom to a great many uhhh moments at church when all the church biddies wanted to praise my mother for giving him a strong biblical name, when truely she just wanted to pounce the guy from guiding light and uh "ride off into the sunset"

I was named after a motocross racer, aparently. My middle name is the only one of the three that can be pronounced or spelled first time by most people (and 4 letters compared to 7 each for the other two).

For some reason I have different means, the above one is direct Hebrew one, but there is some debate, because it is a derivitive of the name meaning Sea of bitterness! So sometimes means that instead ... depending on who you speak to.

Wayne may be dull:
From an occupational surname meaning "wagon maker", derived from Old English węgn "wagon". Use as a first name can be partly attributed to the popularity of the actor John Wayne. Another famous bearer is Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky, likely the greatest in the history of his sport.
But DuWayne doesn't seem to be (even though they don't show my spelling:
Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Dubhan which means "little and dark", derived from dubh "dark, black" combined with a diminutive suffix.

From the Hebrew name מִיכָאֵל (Mika'el) which meant "who is like God?". This is the name of one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only one identified as an archangel in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation in the New Testament he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies, and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers.
Woot, Im like God.
As am I. That makes Crazyal our enemy.

mine is a shortened version of "Shield Wolf" so I guess mine means "Shield"
another definition is "one who seeks companionship"

mine's a compound of two bits translating as "grace/graceful" and "oath/word"...with the middle name being a derivative of a name translated as "warrior"

Everyone thinks my first name is short for a longer name...and they're all shocked when they find out it isn't. Some even have a hard time believing it. However, my parents specifically did not want to name me the longer version, as I must always explain. It's the Celtic word for "birch" and also the first month of the Celtic year.

In German, My name means "valiant fighter".
English roots define it as "Thor's Stone" or "Lightning Bolt".
