Hey Jen while some cool POI while your at Marscon. I visit my GF summers and christmas regularly in the Hampton Roads area. There is a an ENORMOUS Yankee candle literally half a mile down the road. SANTA is there YEAR ROUND and you dip your own candle!!! there is also this AWSOME restaurant called Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise a short 15 miles a way. (Totally worth it for the Chocolate Nachos) and of course the taverns of Williamsburg are fun as well.
email for more cool POIs.
Sincerely,
Mikey-Joe

I haven't been up that way ever and it is not on my next 199 year schedule but I sure would be interested in those Chocolate Nachos. Would you want to guess/venture a recipe for a basket of those. ;{)

I see Peter Schweighofer from West End Games is going to be there as well. I wonder if they're demonstrating Bill Coffin's new Septimus role-playing game.

well where do you live? they have a couple of these restaurants down the east coast states and a few others I believe. Making em at home just doesn't do them justice, but they taste like rolled flat chocolate and regular waffle cones drenched in chocolate sauce, sprinkled with powdered sugar and sprinkles, next to a bowl of Blue blue ice cream

POI???? :d/:

I don't think you're talking about poi spinning, are ya? Points of Interest, maybe?

There a couple of Jimmy Buffett restaurants around, didn't know one was in the Hampton Roads area. I still miss the Yukon Steak Company in Williamsburg. Best freakin' steak... ever! My sister-in-law (jokingly) offered to give the waiter a hummer because the food was that good. :dgrin:

Williamsburg also has a great Lenox outlet store. I score major points with my mom from the goodies I get for her there.

MARSCON WAS GREAT!
I got to meet Jennie, hang out with lots of cool folks, play a couple of demonstration games, watch live and improv comedy skits, win stuff at auction, sit through a (rather poor) presentation of Rocky Horror Picture Show, the very first part of which was while sitting next to Jennie, watch multiple panel discussions, Including one on application of theatrical makeup (hey, nothing else was going on right then), bought lots of shwag, hear "huh-huh-huh" as the most frightening laugh ever, and be worshiped as a god while hot women threw themselves down before me for acting as a fanboy!

Did I mention I met Jennie? :D

*edit* who else was there? what did you do? did we see eachother?

I must have seen you at the makeup seminar (there were only a few of us) I was the loser who had to duck out halfway through... I read the schedule wrong and thought it was only an hour :(

Why did I just now notice the Forum link at the top of the comic page?

Marscon was great!
In the past I've never really been interested in the Guests of Honor. I was going just to hang out with friends and play games.
This year when I saw that Jennie was going to be there I actually SQUEE'd. Thankfully I was alone at the time. I immediately starting thinking about who I could tell that would understand my excitement. I called a fellow geek and he was excited as I.
I was actually a bit nervous to talk to Jennie. As an old old man I figured I was over that kind of nervousness. Then again I am still capable of SQUEE-ing so obviously I haven't grownup yet.
Anyway there was a moment when there wasn't anyone at her booth and I got a chance to say 'Hi'.
I have to say that Jennie is one of the nicest, charismatic, and easy to talk to person I've met. She had a smile and friendly word for everyone. Of course you could say that it is expected because she's there to sell her stuff but she seemed to genuinely enjoy what she was doing.
Sadly I did not see the panels she was on. I was busy hanging out in the gaming area extending my "Lose at all games" streak. At one point on Saturday night I saw her come into the gaming area. I can add to my List of Regrets the fact that I didn't get a chance to invite her to play Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game. After all who doesn't like blowing away zombies. However we were in the middle of a different game and by the time we were finished Jennie was gone.

Sorry about the long ramble but I'm still kinda hyper from the con.
Oh, and Hi, everyone, I'm new here.

P.S. I didn't see anything about Septimus but Peter Schweighofer did have a booth where he was selling Pulp Egypt and I got a chance to play in one of the games he ran. Real nice man and it was a fun game.

Hey all!
I'm a Va native and was super psyched to find out that Jennie was going to be there!
I got to sit in on her "free draw" panel where she drew some wonderful off the cuff stuff (including a penguin sword swallower and "Dr. Who does 'death by chocolate')
I also tried to see her in the dealer room but misinterepreted times and showed up after 6.
As mentioned before, she is a warm, likable person, who is SO easy to approach.

If you have the chance to meet her, DO IT!

Signing off,
MIB in Va.

heeheeheee...
The Penguin sword swallower was sold in the art room the night before the auction. She drew it on the same sheet as her opening doodle, of herself getting dizzy on Sharpie fumes. What a clever (if unintentional) pun that was! A skewered penguin, more looking on in horror, and Jennie grinning and saying "mmm... sharpies!"

Had fun at my brief time at Marscon. I'll be there for the duration next year. Had a really nice chat with Miss Breeden. Always nice to meet another Finder fan.

And I still feel like a little bit of a schmuck for one little thing I forgot to do. Saturday night, I met an amazing and beutiful woman at Marscon. We sat and talked for a while, but then ran off in two different directions. (me to sit in on a group that I left out of boredom, and her to locate her friends) I caught up with her again after the RHPS, but it was on thier way out the door.

What I feel like a schmuck about, is that with as much interst as I had in her, (which she certainly seemed to reflect), it didn't even occur to me till midday Sunday that I should have asked for her phone number or last name.

Is there a message board or community or something for the con? I know on the dragon*con lj group(s) there are from time to time people looking for someone they met up with at the con, or who was dressed as such-and-such, etc...you could try something similar.

Not yet. They haven't even updated thier site since before the con.

(although I did fall out of my chair laughing at the bio up there for Jennie.)

Hello!

Quite a surprise to find that I, a fan of DP, got pictures posted of me performing at MarsCon. :-)

Thanks, Jennie! We were all warned about leaf-blowers.

Say "hi" next time. :-)
