I was planning on going to Anime Boston and kept an eye on their website waiting for the artist alley info to show up. The dealers room page always says "keep an eye on this page"
So then I get an e-mail from Jamie (in his likeness) saying the tables are sold out for artist alley. .. what? I didn't see any tables? how are they sold out?
grrrrrrr
I love anime shows but their "watch this site because we might open artist alley reg someday...maybe... when you're not looking" shit is pissing me off.
Having the artist alley info on a hidden forum that you have to follow a bread crumb trail of links to and then check it three times a day for six months SUCK. I don't do as well at Wizard shows as I do at Anime shows but they have a sign up sheet on the front page.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree, Jen. They just don't seem to pull it all together on the site a lot of the time.

Ah. Yes.
I am a staffer at AB, though not an Artist Alley staffer, so please do not take anything I say as gospel. However, I do know a bit.
This was a complaint raised by quite a few people. The date was announced a month prior on the forums, and Nikki did forward the information to be posted on the main page. Apparently, due to a change in webmasters, it never got posted on the AB page, and no one noticed.
The Alley sold out in twenty-four seconds. Then the server ran in fear.
Dealers room is seporate from the Artist's Alley. Last I heard, the reason why the Dealer's room is still in flux is due to neogotiations with Industry persons as to what they required/wanted by way of tables.
I bought much stuff from you last year, and was hoping to do so this year as well. I actually thought about emailing you about the AA date, but at the time, I didn't want to be weird "COME TO MY CON" girl. If you decide to give us (and your NE fans) another chance, I'll make sure the information is in your email box next year. 8(

Yeah. Sucks. There are a few smaller NC events that Ari is looking into, but getting info is a little hard because a) there's no friggien EMAIL address fer chrissake and b) they don't answer the phone or call back after getting messages...will you believe these guys have 3-4 events per year? And it's more than one con series I'm talking about.

Animazement (Durham NC) is always very good at letting us know ahead of time when to expect the table reg to open. This year it starts Feb. 1 but I check on it about everyday to make sure there isn't some kind of slip up. Sorry to hear your troubles Jennie.

Yes, I've noticed that volunteer organizations walk a very fine line between getting people to do what they say they'll do, and harrassing people until they quit. AB is usually quite together, but I staff a much smaller con that's a trainwreck every year. I love it so, but I don't know how anyone else puts up with it.
