I don't know what storyboarding is, but the drawing looks great! Love that slighly psychedelic bent of the room.

the bend is actually just from me holding the paper i'm too tired to search for my scanner. all nighters are killing me right now

Doing something you're good at over something you enjoy... I wouldnt recomend it.

Seems a bit.. detailed... for a storyboard.

And.. is it me.. or is the woman in the foreground flashing the band??

yep i'm a little mad at the teacher so i made it borderline obscene. there's also a guy flicking off the band and another guy peeing on the side of the stage.

that's just the key frame. i have to draw six more off of it telling a story

I'm amused by the reaction of the teenaged boy in front of the woman flashing the band. :)

My mind's all bent out of shape. I saw soldier-with-rifle first, and casualty-slumped-against-wall next. I was looking round for the gunman before I noticed the flashing.

... .... ..... He looks like Wallace(from Wallace and Gromit) discovering a mountain of cheese. Awesome.

during the class critique today someone said the exact same thing. turns out i was the only one who did something that wasn't realistic looking and scenery based instead of figure based.
it was kinda funny cause i thought mine was the worst but i got the best feedback. people thought that i intentionally tried to make it look cell shaded or that i did it on the computer. so i think i got my grade boosted up for being original when really i just can't draw

when really i just can't drawTypical artist.

I would trade BODY PARTS to get 1/2 your talent.

You'd also trade (other people's) body parts to get half her body parts, though, wouldn't you?

Al actually has a point, though, Meg. You really can draw.

Nah.. She's cute as a button, but methinks the wife would SLIGHTLY mind...

After having heard several artists comment on thoughts such as these, would you trade time and effort to get that skill?

RapscallionBeen there, done that. Art *IS* a skill, and can be learned. Just like martial arts. A good percentage is how much effort you put into it. I put enough into it to know I wouldn't get far. I *REALLY* tried. I suck at it. My hands are arthritic (at age 9) and shake when I use them too much. Bit hard to draw a straight line when you peter out after 20 minutes.

I'm creative, but I just can't focus long enough to keep up an individual drawing with competance. Pretty much everyone and their brother has been diagnosed with ADD and AHDD and yadda yadda yadda. Bottom line is, I did (less than) mediocre with maximum effort.

If I kept at it... I could have gotten SOMEwhere. I got lazy. I went into the dramatic arts (big surprise there. huh?) I even did some performance art once outside of school. I actually made my living creating Mascots for over a year. I love to create.

Would I love to draw?? HELL YES!!! I tried. I sucked at it. I'm not gonna cry in my cheerios over it. I just HATE hearing people with natural talent and a real shot at doing it for a living, complain how they "can't draw"...

kitty!

I want to be able to draw close up things with the photorealism shea can. I love her sunset chalk drawing and I looooovvvveee the Trict picture. I can pretend I'm drawing realistically but if I even attempt at drawing every detail it just looks like crap. I'm much better at simplification than I am at photorealism. I can either draw amazing contour lines with no shading or have amazing value in incredibly simplified lines. I can't have both. It just looks crappy. And because my art teacher haaaaatttteeesssss it when I draw figures not from life I've stopped drawing figures and have done hella amounts of abstract and surreal object-based works.

I guess what I'm saying is you can't have it all?

I never really found realism to be that hard. I mean, I just look at it as all relative. There's a dark spot, then next to that it a light spot that sorta goes up a little... etc, etc.

Trying to duplicate photos is really good practice cuz you can take as long as you want with them. And hey, if its a photo you took yourself then it counts as original art and you can add it to your porfolio.

see i envy the ability to be able to make things from a blank canvas so to speak, since i miniture paint im good at working with 3d things and can modify sculpts more or less how i want them. But all the lines are pretty much there so while i can get blending, shading and highlighting effects down nicely coupled with decent colour theory what i cant do too well is create things from scratch.

stick a sheet of paper in front of me and ask me to draw; ill be lost.

That's the problem I have too. I can draw from observation easily, but drawing straight outta my head is harder.

Crap. I just remembered I had an idea earlier and now I can't remember what it was. I hate when that happens. It was a good idea too. :(

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. It's incredibly lame cause you can vaguely remember them but not quite.
