So im thinking of coming over to America at some point in the future and amongst other things checking out the LARP scene. Heres the kicker though, i was thinking of bringing some of my LARP weapons with me, both for keeping in practice and just cos i'd like to show them off.
One thing i have to bear in mind is these are not boffers (Check out LRPstore.com, kapalo.com or eldritch.com for an example of the sorts of things i have) so i was wondering if there might be a spot of bother actually getting them into the country.
Any info or personal experiences on this would be greatly appreciated

Depends somewhat on what exactly you have. But yes, could be a pain to try and get thru security. They can be VERY paranoid about letting anything even resembeling a weapon on board. Best bet may be to pack up any weaposn and send them seprately to yourself. Not only less hassle, but could be cheaper as well.
May be some trouble with shipping weapons, but try getting a hold of the local postmaster, ask him what the regulations are for shipping replica weapons. I know it can be done, but not sure if there's particular restrictions.

You can also check the TSA (www.tsa.gov) for details on this, but I think you're ok to bring that stuff over as long as it's packed in some kind of checked luggage.

Ditto. TSA will let domestic travelers carry edged weapons and prop firearms (including starter's pistols) as long as they're packed in the check-in luggage.
If you're coming to the States, have lots of toys and don't meet TSA guidelines, you may want to look into shipping services (e.g., UPS, FedEx, etc). May cost more money, but they have the resources & clearances to move some of the questionable things from country to country.
Hope this helps.

Hadnt thought of posting them, guess it depends where i stay and for how long. As for flying domestic flights arent a problem, have already been to Scotland and back with some of them and had no problems. Im more concerned about flying internationally with them.
Anyway if this idea ever gets past the 'this would be a cool thing to do' stage i'll check back. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys :)

even replicas can inflict considerable harm :P so they're still weapons to me. after all guns/swords/sticks don't kill people, people kill people.

people kill people.
Word. Weapons just increase the efficiency in which the said killing is done.

they go in my bedroom. on the shelf 2 feet down from the ceiling. any lower and the Toddler O' Doom will manage to finagle a grab on them. and well me with weaponry... merely uspetting her with it.... well again armageddon would be a tea party.
