Prophet, just please at least give me a notice by July if you will make it or not. So I can offer other formites part of the room I booked. So far a few 'maybes'. Lol it is gonna be kinda odd to have a 3 person room if I am the only person in it.

Wooooo! My postcard came today! It's all official!

Right, I have a few questions for you guys. I'd really appreciate the help!

    1. What is the weather like in Atlanta? Please remember that I live in the UK.... it is also worth remembering that I live in Manchester, land of grey, wet and cold. Just need to know whether or not to bring my regular stuff or if I should splash out on some shorts and maybe a summer dress.

    2. What are a) food prices and b) travel costs like?

    3. How much spending money (yaaaaaaaaaaay dealers den!) is a sensible amount to bring?

    4. Will there be some kind of event which involves dancing? If yes, what would be appropriate party wear?

    a) Stay in my pirate gear

    b) Gothic or Sweet Lolita

    c) Jeans and strappy top

    d) Body hugging black velvet barely there dress with fish-net stockings and platform heels.

    e) Black PVC hot-pants with matching halter-neck with black and white stripy over the knee socks and new rocks.

I just want to figure out what is the norm so I don't stick out like a sore thumb too much.

Yay for the little yellow cards!!!

    1. Hot and MUGGY

    2. I'd budget about $20 a day (that's around 12-15 gbp?)

    3. I've had as little as $200 to spend on the entire weekend, including fun stuff from the dealers room. Unless you havea region free dvd player, I'd also double check the region codes on any DVD you pick up

    4. Yes.
a-e all of the above please. there will be pics to prove that it happened

Listen, if you're an immortal effeminate creature that spends all of your time in the woods and sparkles in the sunlight? You're not a vampire, you're a freaking faerie!

I knows it, but I still wanted to check. Didn't want anyone to think I was a turbo-slut or anything if I decided to wear my cyber-goth gear.

Some people assume that of ANY woman at D*C, so don't worry about it.
You'll have plenty plenty of peoples about to thump anyone who gets grabby (Which, imho, happens a LOT less at Dragon Con than anywhere else.)
all in all, if you feel like dressing sexy, dress sexy. You'll be thanked for it

    ... I'll be in my bunk ...

Or as they say in French, "Je voudrais manger votre pantalooms, ma Capitane!" (I would like to chew off your bloomers, my Captain!)

In regards to $$$, it really depends on what you're looking to get to bring home. A friend of mine sets up a "Dragon*Con" fund about six months before the con for her shopping spree.

A few weeks before the con, D*C posts information on a few of the vendors/exhibitors who be selling stuff. Brute Force Leather is usually in attendance; Tommy sells some very nice, leather ladies' garb but he's pricey. I'm fond of Pendragon Costumes and Journeyman Leathers - both make very nice leather / suede doublets, jackets, and bodices. I have two of Pendragon's doublets and may end up with a third one. Journeyman also has a selection of floggers & other toys (if that's your thing). There will be beaucoup artists selling prints (ranging from dirt cheap to every expensive), jewelry, T-shirts, and sculptures. There's lots of stuff to be had in the Art Show as well.

As for money for food, the food court is a god-send! Decent food at reasonable prices. I practically live at Willy's (a Tex-Mex chain) if given the chance. I would just be wary of any food you get late at night that's really greasy or has been sitting out for hours. Daven got food poisoning from the pizza place last year. Yuck!

The weather will be hot & humid. Think like you will be walking thru a steam room at times and dress for that.

This is my idea of exercise

    YAAAAAAAAAAAY!

ZOMG HOT. Think over 100F (42C? Something like that) with HUMIDITY. Dress light.

    2. What are a) food prices and b) travel costs like?
Travel, if you're already in the city, is nil. If your flight gets in at the same time as Raven or Tipouf, I can pick you up. Food...not terribly expensive, maybe bring $300ish.

    3. How much spending money (yaaaaaaaaaaay dealers den!) is a sensible amount to bring?
I'll let someone else answer this. I didn't really spend anything last year.

    4. Will there be some kind of event which involves dancing? If yes, what would be appropriate party wear?
THERE IS SO MUCH DANCING AND I WILL DRAG YOU THERE.

    a) Stay in my pirate gear

    b) Gothic or Sweet Lolita

    c) Jeans and strappy top

    d) Body hugging black velvet barely there dress with fish-net stockings and platform heels.

    e) Black PVC hot-pants with matching halter-neck with black and white stripy over the knee socks and new rocks.
    a) Yes.

    b) Yes.

    c) Yes.

    d) Yes.

    e) Yes.

It's not terribly club-like. You're not going to boil over - but the ability to move is still critical. No wings, train, or other easily-damaged items.

I just want to figure out what is the norm so I don't stick out like a sore thumb too much.
    HAH.
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eyeball. Then...
    Hey, free eyeball!
